A day trip to the Ourika valley

The Ourika valley lies about thirty kilometers southeast of Marrakech, along the road that climbs toward the Atlas mountains (the P2017) — expect 45 minutes to 1 hour by car depending on your exact starting point in the city. It's one of the most accessible day trips from Marrakech, with no overnight stay required.

The main point of interest is Setti Fatma, a village at the foot of a series of waterfalls reached via a hiking trail: allow roughly 1.5 to 2 hours round trip to reach the first falls, with swimming spots in summer. The path is marked but uneven in places — proper walking shoes are recommended, pool sandals won't cut it.

The road itself passes through several Berber villages where you can stop for mint tea or a tagine overlooking the valley, and on Mondays, the weekly market at Aghbalou offers an authentic glimpse of local trade (produce, crafts) — quite different from the Medina's tourist-oriented souks.

To make the most of the day, leaving early in the morning (before 9am) helps avoid the midday heat on the trail and the biggest crowds at Setti Fatma during high season. A transfer arranged through our team means you don't have to handle the driving on a road that gets winding in places.
